The Future of Potty Licenses

TL;DR version: I’ve shut down the site. Visit commiss.io to purchase the blank templates for a minimum price of $5. Read ahead for the full story 🙂️

Update 10/26/2021: It has come to my attention that someone is claiming to have access to the generator and is charging large amounts of money to make licenses for people. This person is not associated with me, and is most likely lying about having access. DO NOT pay anyone other than the below commiss.io post for a Potty License. If you paid someone to make you a license, please file a chargeback or payment dispute with your payment provider.

It all started with a tweet. The tweet I quoted originally was making its rounds on Babyfur Twitter and it got my gears turning.

I had worked with image libraries before and figured it was theoretically possible. Build a form, layer some text and images, and you’ve got a semi-custom license to share with your friends. It took me a couple weeks and I wound up with the site as most users know it.

Unfortunately, I must declare an indefinite end to the Potty License Generator. When I launched the project, I got so much amazing response from the community and even got to host a Dealers Den table at MFF. Since the site has launched and spread, I’ve had a small subset of users use questionable images when creating their badges. Because of this, I am uncomfortable hosting the generator for the time being.

In addition, my mental health has struggled lately and I just don’t have the time nor energy it would require to update the site. I would love to put in the time to come up with a solution so that people can create badges again, but that’s not within my ability right now.

I am forever grateful for the support provided by the ABDL and Babyfur communities surrounding this project. I still smile every time I come across someone’s on Twitter and I hope that continues.

So what now then? Will I ever get to make a license again?

The short answer is that I don’t know. I doubt I’ll ever feel comfortable offering the site to the general public again.

Right now, the best I can offer is the ability to purchase the blank templates on a pay-what-you-want basis via commiss.io. You can purchase it at the link below for a starting price of $5. By purchasing through commiss.io, you agree to the non-commercial usage license listed on the page.

In addition, I’ve considered allowing people to access the original site by joining a Patreon page. This would help weed out people uploading unsavory content. I would offer unlimited usage of the site for Patrons, and different tiers may include higher quality imagery and/or editable files. You keep anything you make, even if you only pledge for a month.

I have also considered offering them on a commission basis. They would be fairly cheap but it would allow me to directly vet usage of my work. I would never restrict people from creating their own and modifying my design (assuming no profit is made). It’s meant as a fun project for the community. I intend to keep it that way.

The world can be better because of what you built in the past

I am incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to build a site that has had such a positive impact on the ABDL and Babyfur communities. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years by sharing the site and even donating to me. It really means a lot.

Part of what got me thinking about putting the nail in PLG’s coffin (since I had already closed the site back in the summer of this year) was the following video from Tom Scott. He talks about creating fun web projects that make an impact, and allowing them to come to a close when the effort no longer seems worth it. The whole video is worth a watch, but the following is some of what stuck with me.

“Eventually, [my code] will break… Entropy — the steady decline into disorder that is a fundamental part of the universe. Entropy will get us all in the end… This too shall pass, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t build things anyway. Just because something is going to break in the end, doesn’t mean that it can’t have an effect that lasts into the future. Joy. Wonder. Laughter. Hope. The world can be better because of what you built in the past…”

Fast forward to 8:49–9:47 for the quotes above, but the whole video is worth a watch

Thank you for the support and for taking the time to read this. I hope to have a new ABDL/Babyfur project in the future. Until then, stay cute. Stay crinkly.
